The Bythams Woodland Trust (BWT) is a registered charity (1100816) and we run The Spinney, a wonderful, award winning woodland community playspace that is quite unlike any site in South Kesteven.
The Spinney is located in Little Bytham, just off the Creeton Road, and is open 365 days a year.
It is a natural playspace where adults and children of all ages can relax, learn and have fun in perfect harmony with nature. Set in a 6 acre undulating site, the Spinney offers endless opportunities for people to enjoy the simple pleasures of outdoor life.
For wildlife there are bird and bat boxes, planted native trees and shrubs, wild flowers and heritage fruit and a sensory garden.
For people, we have a zip wire, swings, three slides, space net, spider’s web, look out tower and raised walkway, see saw, tree swing, barbecue and camp fire.
We have taken great care to create this natural environment where everyone can explore, discover, play, build dens for as long as you want. However, in doing this, we do ask that you respect the site and all that it has to offer.
Next door to The Spinney, we have also created a wildflower meadow which is designed to be a habitat to attract all sorts of insects which are so important to our natural environment and biodiversity.
From time to time, we organise community events especially our annual Tree Dressing Day which takes place at the end of November.
There is no charge to use The Spinney but we do need funding to help us maintain the site for public enjoyment. This is why we are part of the Lottery SK.
So, if you want to run free and wild in the woods, please support The Spinney!
